In this seminar we will examine the technology that makes it possible to translate neuronal activity into human or robotic motor activity or into human language or to feed it into the neuronal activity of other human or animal brains. We will discuss the technical and experimental limits and possibilities, as well as the possible ethical, practical, philosophical, legal, and social consequences of this rapidly developing technology. The scientific papers in this research field are usually published in English. It is therefore helpful if your English language skills allow you to understand these English texts, possibly with the help of automatic translation. You will be given weekly reading assignments which will be worked on in class. In order to pass the course, you will write an essay.Dates
