The lecture is intended to give you an insight into how translation plays a pivoting role in apparently disparate contexts. Translation and translators often play a central, but often not openly visible, role in politics, in political contexts and politics in translation. Here we will give you a little insight into these interconnected issues. As lecturers, we often implicitly ask ourselves what translation is. Perhaps most concretely, this question is posed in the context of the didactics of translation. Again, you will get a little insight into possible approaches. Of course, translators are always multilingual. The consequences of multilingualism for language processing are, on the surface, a simple question, but as soon as you look under the hood, it becomes clear how complex multilingual communication is. In all of the above contexts, language technology can and will play a role. Here, too, you will get a small insight into what this can look like in concrete terms in academia and industry.
