Requirements / organisational issues
This course is intended for students of the module Translation Studies who have little to no experience in (translational) scientific work and would like to familiarize themselves with this topic.Digital teaching
This course will be held online via Teams from 27th october to 15th december.The first session (20th obtober) and all sessions after the christmas break (5th january to 2nd february) will be held live.
Contents
During the course we will deal with the following topics, among others:What is science? What is scientific work?
Basics and methods of translation science
Writing appropriate to the type of text
Scientific writing (e.g. abstract/proposal/summary & co.)
Proper citation
Efficient research
Learning objectives
The goal of the course is to work with the participants to develop a solid foundation for their further studies. At the end of the course, participants will not only know what is meant by (translational) scientific work, but will also be able to apply this knowledge by writing a small mini-thesis on a specific topic.
Method
The course is offered as a blended learning measure, i.e. classroom sessions are complemented by the opportunities for collaboration offered by the Internet and new media. Therefore, participants are expected to have basic media skills and/or a willingness to engage with new media. Participants should thus bring an Internet-capable device to each session.
Passing the course
Timely submission/completion of assignments posted online is required to pass the course.
