Perhaps the oldest dichotomy regarding translations is the question of whether they are, should or must be literal or free. While the historical and theoretical discussions on this question form the background in this seminar, the course will focus on studies that try to answer this question empirically. You will read and discuss scientific essays on this topic so that you are well prepared for the term paper that will deal with a similar topic. Active participation and a small research paper are necessary for passing.Dates
