Approaches for Localisation: Providing Voice-Over and Subtitling for Educational Videos, GER-EN-AR

The course intends to provide insight into voice-over and subtitling work processes.

To accomplish this, the course will discuss possible solutions for the communication problem which occurs when teaching school students who are not native speakers of German. These solutions include providing either voice-over or subtitling for educational videos which match the students’ curriculum.

In the process of finding the most appropriate course of action for the scenario at hand, this course will delve into the technological and practical aspects of each solution. In the end, participants must decide which approach is most suitable given the current problem and actively work towards its realisation.

Considering the strong focus on practical implementation of voice-over and subtitling, students are expected to be both open-minded and adaptable, for the course will introduce many different technologies, leaving minimal to no time for in-depth lessons on each of them. Therefore, students are required to possess the ability to handle new programs after a short introduction and to autonomously conduct their own research regarding potential questions and problems as needed.

This course allows for translation into a foreign language. However, students without sufficient experience in the target languages are encouraged to support the team during our work on the project by focussing on transcription, adjustment of time stamps, and post-editing.

Additional information

You will receive further information via e-mail. Most course communication will take place via MS Teams.
