In a globalized world, qualified technical translators are more in demand than ever before - at the same time, more and more international organizations and companies are showing interest in machine translation systems, not only to enhance internal communication between employees, but also to accelerate translation processes and reduce translation costs. Over the past decades, the field of "post editing" has developed and is now becoming increasingly established. In the field of post-editing, professional translators are required to efficiently post-edit machine translations according to given guidelines, so that a target text is created that meets the requirements.

In this course, you will first be introduced to the theoretical principles of machine translation and post-editing. In the practical part of the course, special challenges for machine translation will be worked on, but we will also discuss which advantages machine translation systems offer not only to the client but also to the translator. Last but not least, post-editing exercises based on different types of text and in different technological environments will give you an understanding of the new field of activity. By the end of the course you should be able to critically validate the possibilities and risks of post-editing and make informed decisions regarding costs and time for future post-editing jobs.
